The two king of the finnish forest: the brown bear and the moose or elk. During the beautiful autumn week you will have the possibility to observe and photograph the special mammals of Finland. The week a wildlife safari includes 2 bear watching nights, elk safaris, wild reindeer search, nature centre visit and hiking tours.
It's the ruska time in Finland, which means that the tree leaves, blueberry bushes and some other berries become beautiful yellow and red

Guiding, local professional wildlife guide in English, 2 bear watching nights, 3 elk search, 1 wild reindeer search. Nature Centre visit and hiking tours.

During the week you will have the possibility to discover, observe and photograph the mammals of Finland. The king of the forest is the brown bear, you will observe one up to 8 bears in a night from comfortable and safe hides which are equipped with toilet, sleeping places and hearing system. During the night the wolverine may also appear.

Finland and especially the region of Kainuu is well populated with the great predators and other mammals. In Finland, there are about 1700 bears, 200-300 wolves, 200-300 wolverines, 2 400 lynxes, thousands of elks, foxes, beavers, and in Kuhmo about 850 wild forest reindeers. During the special autumn mammal week you have also good possibilities to see birds like capercaillie and black grouse.

Daily program:

1st Day: Arrival Kajaani. Transfer to the B&B and dinner.

2nd Day : Bears
The day will be dedicated to see why and how the large predators are subjected to researches in Finland. Visit of the Predator centre of Petola in Kuhmo.In the afternoon, we will first drive and then hike 700 m to the hides for an exciting night of bear watching. We get some sandwiches and hot drinks with us. Accommodation is in the big bear watching hide, where even beds and sleeping bags are available.

3rd Day : Bears
After breakfast, we will look for prints or indices of bears, by walking about 2 hours. In the afternoon we will go for a bear watching evening or night.

4th Day : Hiidenportti National Park
A day trip to the national park of Hiidenportti, the secret place of lynxes and eagle owls. We will hike during the day about 5 to 10 km, having a picnic with us. Good walking shoes recommended.
Evening search for northern lights Aurora Borealis. Accommodation at B&B.

5th Day : Wild Forest Reindeer
A trip to a protected area where beavers and wild reindeers are living. A landscape of Eskers from the last ice age, with lakes and swamps, a pleasant place for female reindeer to give birth in spring, and a mating place in autumn, the songs of arctic diver to be heard sometime. We will use car and also walk during the day (5 km max). Accommodation .

6th Day : Moose (elk) day
An early wake up to go to observe the elk. Daytime free to explore the countryside village of Lentiira. In the evening, we will go by car to listen and to see elks. Accommodation .

7th Day : Transfer to airport after the breakfast, the head full of Finnish wonderful souvenirs…

Equipment recommended : warm clothes according to weather forecasting, binoculars, video and camera, tripod and head of tripod, gloves and hat. Rubber boots/ waterproof warm high shoes. Woolen socks, chemicals warmer.

Program can be subject to changes depending on the season and the weather conditions (F.ex: some animals don’t move around in the rain). And also to get the best possible places and opportunities to see the animals we might make some plans new. Animals are totally wild and move free. We keep the right to change the order and places of the program. Most of the observation happens from the car (elk and reindeer) or hides (bears), but also by being outside and hiking, this is why warm clothing is recommended.
